LUCKNOW: Four housing development authorities in the state have been pulled up for delaying the delivery of the affordable houses.

The authorities governing Hapur-Pilkhuwa, Unnao-Shuklaganj, Kanpur and Ghaziabad have been asked to expedite work on creating the housing units which have been approved by the central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC). A total of 3,542 housing units were to be constructed and sanction was granted under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana to start work on the buildings five years back. Meant to resolve the problems of the poor families staying in the urban areas, out of the 3,542 only 624 units have been delivered so far.

With only 17.5% of the target achieved, the housing department sought a report on the current status of the projects from the development authorities. Director, Awas Bandhu, Ravi Jain said that officials have been asked to expedite work and complete the projects at the earliest.

“The PMAY – urban scheme would only continue till December 31, 2024. The demand for affordable houses exists in all the four cities. But somehow the projects have remained stranded,” said a senior officer from the department.
