Chandigarh: 24 commercial properties likely to face sealing
“There is a laid down process and procedure to recover the property tax. Following that, we served recovery notices to the defaulters, giving them ample time to deposit the amount,” sources in the civic body said.
CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation (MC) has identified around two dozen commercial properties for sealing for not paying property tax despite multiple recovery notices.
“There is a laid down process and procedure to recover the property tax. Following that, we served recovery notices to the defaulters, giving them ample time to deposit the amount. But they have not paid any heed to the notices, forcing us to start the sealing proceedings as prescribed in the law,” sources in the civic body said.
Sources said strict action would also be taken against residential property tax defaulters in the coming days.
The MC had given two-month rebate period in April and May to taxpayers. While there was 20% rebate for residential properties, it was 10% for commercial ones. After the rebate period, defaulters had to pay 25% penalty on the property tax and 12% interest.
For the current financial year, the civic body has kept a target of Rs 92 crore from property tax.
