Kamgar Chal dwellers to get 270 sq ft home at same place: Kolhapur civic body
KOLHAPUR: KMC will provide a house of 270 square feet to the families of Kamgar Chal at the same location, additional commissioner Ravikant Adsul said.
Five buildings in Kamgar Chal are in a dilapidated condition. Due to this, the municipal administration has issued notices to the families dwelling here to relocate. KMC conducted a structural audit of the buildings on Tuesday morning. Later in the evening, a meeting was held between the family members of Chal and the KMC officials.
Adsul said, “The buildings here have become dangerous. Last week, a woman died when the wall of the Khasbag Maidan collapsed. Accordingly, evacuation notices have been given to the families here. Families residing here should make a positive decision regarding this. The KMC workers who are residing here will get a house of 270 square feet in the new building. Houses will be constructed as soon as possible.”
KMC has also asked MSEDCL and the water supply department to cut the electricity and water supply to these Kamgar Chal buildings as of August 1. However, the families dwelling here have opposed the move.
Aresident from Kamgar chal from the KMC health department, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The building is home to 110 families.” What will they do to this place after we vacate? Will a mall be built here? Are these buildings really in dangerous conditions? We want a new house built here at the same place and will oppose it if KMC tries to ask us to relocate to some exterior part of the city”.
